Another Hand-Me-Down

A few weeks ago I posted some photos of my girls in the PJs and bathrobe that my oldest daughter had received for Christmas and recently passed along to her little sister. Here is another hand-me-down that was actually purchased for my younger daughter before she was even born. I believe it was the first outfit we received for her--my mom got a little ahead of herself right after finding out we were expecting a little girl as her first grandchild! :)

Since the dress was sized for a toddler, when our oldest later joined our family she became the first to wear it. I had her photo taken in it when a friend did our family pictures that winter, but since I didn't take them I'm not at liberty to post them here...this is a snapshot of her wearing it at church, though, taken with my point-and-shoot:

Now our little one is finally big enough to wear the outfit her grandmother got for her months before she was born. I decided to put her in the same chair where we had her sister's pictures done in it (the ones taken by my friend), and here is what I got:

Oh Christmas Tree

Am I ever late posting these! :) I'm finally getting caught up with my backlog from the last few months (but still haven't had a chance to do anything with the 50's Sunday pics, to the person who commented about those, sorry!), and realized I never shared these. So, here they are to spark some happy holiday memories!

I put the camera on a tripod and shot these in the dark, because I wanted to capture more of the ambient light from the tree, and keep the girls in silhouette. I changed the aperture to make the lights show up as a star shape. These were the result of an experimental first try, but I'm looking forward to trying again this Christmas with hopefully a new lens and some better results! :)

Don't you love the scowl? She perfected that during the weeks before Christmas.

Winter Fun

A few weeks ago we had a nice, fresh snowfall followed by a few days of relatively warm temperatures, so I took my camera outside while the girls were playing. Their daddy built a "fort" around the swingset, and they spent some time climbing on that, playing on the swings and slides, making snowballs and snow angels--it was the best kind of snow for playing in!

This is the look of someone who is about to pummel Mommy with a snowball...sorry kiddo, no throwing snowballs at Mommy when she's holding the camera! Bummer. :)

Just For Fun

My oldest daughter now attends an extra day of preschool every other week, which allows me some time to play with the camera once in awhile--with at least one "model" home and available. Recently I had my younger daughter help me work on some assignments for a study group, and we took some other photos just for fun.

Here she is jamming along with the music on the little jukebox that came with their new kitchen set (a Christmas gift). She was really getting into it!

I decided to have her put on the PJs and bathrobe she recently inherited from her sister, so I could photograph her in it. Her sister wore this bathrobe for a very long time, long past the time she grew out of the size (it runs a little big), and I found it in her closet a few weeks ago. Here is big sister in the outfit, two years ago (before I even owned a DSLR, so taken with a P&S):

...and because I think it's so fun to have photographs of each girl in any special outfit that they share ownership of, here is little sister wearing it:

Awww...aren't hand-me-downs great??
